A Turkish proverb says, “If there is demand on old stuff, flea markets would be lighted by divine light.” Contrary to the proverb, Ferikoy Flea Market is visited by thousands of people every Sunday.
Ferikoy Flea Market is located in Ferikoy neighborhood, which is close to Osmanbey metro station(M2 line, Yenikapi – Haciosman). Also you can reach there by walking from Taksim Square, in less than 30 minutes. Ferikoy neighborhood was home of Greek and Armenian citizens in Ottoman times, and there are still non-Muslim residents living in their old neighborhood. Ferikoy contains extremes, skyscrapers located next to centuries old stone apartments, you can hear church bells and azan at the same time, an old beer factory still stands in front of modern hotel, you can see Easter eggs and Ramadan pitas in the shops standing back to back. The whole neighborhood reflects its glorious past.
To reach the flea market, leave metro at Osmanbey metro station from Halaskargazi exit. Take the first right and walk through the walls of old Armenian cemetery, turn right, then take the first left to Arpa Suyu Street and walk until the street ends, you will reach Ferikoy Firin Sokak. Turn left then first right and first right again, finally, you find hidden flea market. If you want to walk to market by foot from Taksim, walking until Osmanbey metro station will take about 15 or 20 minutes.
